Abstract
A method of calculating Regge trajectories is presented and tested. The method is based on dispersion relations and on Cheng's representation for the S-matrix in terms of the Regge trajectories. A non-linear equation must be solved to obtain α(s). Potential theory calculations, using the Cheng representation and a modified representation, are made to test the method. To illustrate the application to relativistic scattering, a crude calculation of the rho trajectory is made. A self-consistent trajectory with the experimental mass and width does not exist, but one may be found if the width is about 200 MeV. Omitted physical effects are discussed, and comparison is made with Chew's strip approximation.
