This portion of the report contains results obtained from compression tests on 95 thin-walled steel circular cylinder. The tested cylinders were mainly of very small L/R ratio and large R/t ratio. The results are compared with the existing theoretical failing stresses and are also presented in a non dimensional form, [...]. The failure stress is best given by the equation [...]. This equation shall be limited for use for L/R greater than 0.1 and for L/R greater than 1.5 assumer L/R = 1.5.
A visual study of buckle formation is presented to aid future research which may be done on compression of thin cylinders.
