Abstract
A circular cylinder of powdered ferromagnetic substance was magnetized to saturation along its axis by a strong magnetic field. A comparatively weak oscillating field, with a frequency of either 21.75 KC or 30.50 KC, was applied normal to the axis. An intensity of magnetization due to a new gyromagnetic effect appeared in a direction normal to the directions of the two applied magnetic fields. A quantitative theory for this effect was developed. Measurements of the magnitude of this magnetization indicated a value for the gyromagnetic ratio of ρ = (1.04 ± 0.06)m/e for permalloy and ρ = (1.09 ± 0.10)m/e for iron.
