Abstract
The spectrophotometry and radioactive exchange of SnII and SnIV in hydrochloric acid have been investigated. It is found that mixtures of SnII and SnIV in hydrochloric acid exhibit anomalous absorption of ultra-violet light and that with the extent of this anomalous absorption is proportional to the product of the SnII and SnIV concentrations, implying absorption by a dimeric complex of SnII and SnIV.
It is found that SnII and SnIV exchange radioactivity moderately slowly (half-exchange time about 7 min.) in 9N hydrochloric acid. The extent of exchange upon immediate separation after mixing is about 17%, which is either a function of the separation method or an indication that only certain chloride complexes of tin exchange.
It is found that CuI and CuII exhibit interaction absorption in 6N HCl
