Abstract

The inclusive photon energy spectrum arising from J/ψ decays is studied in a sample of 4.83 x 10^6 produced J/ψ’s, with the very good energy resolution available through the observation of converted photons in the Mark III spectrometer. The spectrum is inspected for evidence of monochromatic lines due to two-body radiative J/ψ decays to narrow states. The decays J/ψ → γ + ή (958) and J/ψ → γ + ι/X (1450) are observed with limited statistical significance. No evidence is found for any other statistically significant structure in the inclusive spectrum. Upper limits are set on the branching fractions for the observed decays, as well as for the decays J/ψ → γ +ϕ/ϝο(1710) and J/ψ → γ + X(2230).
